Rene Dupree Seeking Help For Substance Abuse Issues
Rene Dupree going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings again
Dec 4, 2024
Rene Dupree has begun attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings again following a 'Cafe de Rene' stream in which he was inebriated.
Appearing on 'Cafe de Rene', Dupree apologised for his condition on an earlier stream and revealed he was inebriated after mixing alcohol with benzodiazepine, an anti-anxiety medication.
"First and foremost, I'd like to apologise to everyone for my condition last night during the return of Cafe de Rene. During the meeting, we had a few adult beverages. Unfortunately, ever since my father passed away over a year ago, I've been suffering from a lot of anxiety issues. I've been prescribed benzodiazepine, to take care of my anxiety issues. For anybody that knows, mixing alcohol with benzos is a very bad thing to do. Thus resulting in my inebriated state last night...I want to apologise to everybody. I want to apologise to Ted Hart, I just want to thank everybody for the support," Dupree said.
"The power of addiction is cunning, baffling and powerful. When you think you have it under control, that's when you should be worrying the most. Once you have that disease and addiction and it has a hold of you, it won't let go. I made the decision to start going to meetings again. Narcotics Anonymous. I wanna thank all the fans who support me through this. I'm gonna persevere, it's just a bump in the road. Thank you guys so much. I apologise again from the bottom of my heart for my behaviour and unprofessionalism last night."
Rene Dupree has suffered from substance abuse issues before and he attended WWE-sponsored rehab.
Dupree previously wrestled for WWE from 2002 until his departure in 2007. He is a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion with Sylvain Grenier and Kenzo Suzuki.
Dupree continues to wrestle on the independent wrestling scene, recently performing in Northern England in Middlesborough, Shildon, and Redcar.
