All Elite Wrestling reportedly changed plans for the main event match at the recent Revolution 2025 pay-per-view.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defeated Cope and Christian Cage in the main event, a match that has been widely panned by fans and critics. On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez suggested the match was meant to go down differently, with Alvarez stating the original plan was for the match to have more interference, including some potential returns.

For reasons yet to be revealed, plans were changed at the last minute, although it is believed that the outcome was never in doubt, with Moxley vs. Swerve Strickland almost certainly always the planned destination post-Revolution.

"I don't know all of the details but there was apparently some idea for the main event that involved way more people than ended up being out there, including some returns, and at the last minute it just got axed. I don't know who it was or what they were going to do but there was a second plan that didn't take place. It was not Shane McMahon, for the love of God. Whatever it was, it involved people that have been there in the past…I'm 99 per cent sure that no matter what was planned before or after Moxley was always retaining and he was always going on to face Swerve at the next pay-per-view," Alvarez said.

The match itself saw interference from Wheeler Yuta and Jay White, with Christian Cage later getting involved, attacking Cope before inserting himself into the match after cashing in his guaranteed world title shot.

Shane McMahon has long been rumoured to be involved with Moxley and The Death Riders, despite reports suggesting McMahon and AEW would not be working together for the time being.
