Report: AEW Sign Former WCW Announcer Tony Schiavone Amid Interest From WWE

This is the greatest announcement in the history of our sport!

Per a report from PWInsider, former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone has joined All Elite Wrestling amid interest from WWE.

According to the report, as recently as last Wednesday WWE were looking to add the voice of WCW to their ranks. However, he chose to go all things All Elite on Thursday.

Tony actually worked for Vince McMahon et al all the way back in 1989/1990, commentating at SummerSlam and the Royal Rumble.

Schiavone is currently signed to an MLW contract and will continue in his role as their play-by-play commentator, the report continues. Although, the report does not state when that deal ends and therefore when Tony could become exclusive to All Elite Wrestling.

PWInsider have not been able to state what role Tony will be taking up with AEW, who currently have the on-air broadcast team of Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Alex Marvez.

As and when All Elite officially announce the signing of Schiavone, it's going to be interesting to see what MLW have to say.

Tony has been appearing in videos on the All Elite Wrestling YouTube channel to provide analysis on certain pay-per-view matches. This caused MLW to release a statement to Figure Four Online back in July: “Unless AEW elects to reach out, Tony Schiavone cannot proceed with AEW or any other company doing anything. I was unaware of him doing the digital stuff until I read it in this week’s Observer,” the statement read.

You can see Tony appear in the video below.
