At the 2025 AEW Dynasty PPV, Chris Jericho lost the ROH World Championship to Bandido, ending his second reign with the gold at 165 days. The follow up episode of AEW Dynamite saw Jericho reprimand members of The Learning Tree, Big Bill & Bryan Keith, proclaiming his disappointment. He ended the segment by stating that he was going away.

It was revealed in a report from Fightful Select that Jericho was finished up with ROH, and it has now been followed up with a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jericho is taking time away from AEW programming too. Jericho is set to tour with his band, Fozzy, over the coming month, though he does have Wednesdays off, with the idea originally being that he’d still be free to work episodes of AEW Dynamite. However, it is now noted that Jericho believes it is the right time for a break from AEW, with no timetable on a potential return. It is said that a comeback will likely not be spoken about until it is time for a ‘surprise’ return.

In the lead up to Dynasty, there were some reported issues regarding the announcement of Jericho’s title match, with Tony Khan revealing that this was due to trying to get Bandido’s family in attendance for the PPV.
