Report: Growing Frustration Within WWE Over SmackDown Tag Team Title Scene

The state of the men's tag team division on Friday Night SmackDown has long been a source of frustration among WWE fans, and it has been revealed that frustration extends to within the company.

WRKD Wrestling has reported there is "growing frustration over a lack of variety and competitiveness among the SmackDown tag title scene." This is in spite of current WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest and R-Truth being beloved backstage.

R-Truth and Damian Priest have been WWE Tag Team Champions since March 20 when they defeated JC Mateo and Tama Tonga of The MFTs. A number of main roster WWE tag teams were released following WrestleMania 42, however, including The New Day, Motor City Machine Guns, the Wyatt Sicks, and the MFTs' Tonga Loa and JC Mateo. Another SmackDown tag team was also broken up in January when Tommaso Ciampa decided to leave WWE upon the expiry of his contract, ultimately splitting up #DIY.

The tag teams currently listed as members of the SmackDown roster include Fraxiom, Angel & Berto, Kit Wilson & The Miz, and the War Raiders. Out of those teams, though, Angel & Berto are featured in AAA in the reformed Los Perros del Mal, while the War Raiders are the reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions. Fraxiom, meanwhile, have been wrestling in NXT.

There have been rumours that WWE are planning to rebuild the tag team divisions on the main roster, with it being reported the company are interested in Enzo Amore & Big Cass, and FTR.

WWE's tag team divisions have allegedly been viewed as an afterthought historically, with the likes of Charlie Haas claiming they were told former WWE chairman and head of creative Vince McMahon didn't like tag team wrestling as he saw it as an extra expense over singles wrestlers.
