Report: Scrapped CM Punk Plans For Closing Moments Of AEW Collision Premiere Revealed

A major closing angle had to be scrapped for the debut episode of AEW Collision

June 17 was a historic day for All Elite Wrestling as the promotion debuted their new Saturday night show, Collision, on TNT. The new series will air on Wednesday nights in the United Kingdom on ITV4.

Collision's debut was headlined by the return of CM Punk and after an opening promo, Punk teamed with FTR in the main event against Samoa Joe and Bullet Club Gold. CMFTR would ultimately pick up the win in a widely-praised 25-minute match after Punk hit Juice Robinson with the Go To Sleep.

Collision then went off the air with CMFTR celebrating but, according to Ibou of WrestlePurists, that wasn't the original plan. KENTA was scheduled to attack Punk after the main event of Collision to build to their planned match at Forbidden Door but the former GHC Heavyweight Champion pulled out at the last minute. KENTA now reportedly has heat with NJPW because of his actions.

"KENTA pulled out last second, was supposed to attack Punk after the main event of Collision episode 1, has heat with Rocky Romero and NJPW, was asked to stop mentioning CM Punk. Why do you think the main event was so long? The closing angle was binned at the 9th hour," Ibou of WrestlePurists tweeted.

As mentioned, CM Punk vs. KENTA was reportedly planned for the Forbidden Door pay-per-view but KENTA rejected the match. The two men have had issues for years over Punk adopting the Go To Sleep as his finishing move.
