Miro was released from his AEW deal this past week, exiting along with other names such as Malakai Black and Ricky Starks. It was reported back in September of last year that Miro had asked for his AEW release, but at the time it was not granted. He had been absent from AEW programming ever since his match at the Worlds End 2023 PPV, where he defeated Andrade in an angle where it seemed as though he would soon reunite with then-wife CJ Perry.
The lack of a reunion with Perry may have led to Miro requesting his release. Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both Miro and CJ Perry were expecting to reunite in AEW and receive a big push, being “under the impression” they were set to be a big act within the company. It is reported that Miro had initially pitched for Perry to be hired to AEW in the first place, pitching the angle of them being separated but ultimately getting back together.
Perry parted ways with AEW in July 2024, and it is noted by Meltzer that this only made things worse in the relationship between Miro and AEW. This led to Miro wanting out of AEW, especially since there were no moves to bring him back to TV. Over the last week, Miro has been slated for a WWE comeback.
