Report: WWE-UFC Merger Didn't Affect Booking Of Roman Reigns Vs. Cody Rhodes At WrestleMania 39

Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes was not booked in anticipation of WWE-UFC merger

It’s certainly been a monumental WrestleMania weekend, and with fans still reeling from Roman Reigns' shock win over Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39 night two’s nain event, WWE formally announced that a deal had been struck with UFC owners Endeavor over a sale of the company.

After the sale was announced, it was revealed that Vince McMahon would be officially part of this new venture going forward, with McMahon overseeing creative but not ‘from the weeds’. This combo of factors led some fans to suggest that Reigns retaining at Mania was done due to the sale, with WWE wanting Reigns to carry on as the figurehead and main brand ambassador of the company, with both titles firmly in his grasp.

This seems to just be wild fan speculation, as a report from Fightful Select has stated that the booking was not affected by a sale, with a source telling Fightful ‘absolutely not’ when asked if the sale had any bearings on the main event. This echoes earlier reports that suggested the finish had been decided well before WrestleMania weekend.

Vince McMahon has since firmly descended into the weeds and he is once again back in charge of WWE creative, with his first show back at the helm being the Raw after WrestleMania 39 on Monday, April 3.
