REVEALED: Reason For Recent Big WWE Contract Extensions

WWE have agreed to several high profile contract extensions this week

2024 is a big contract year on many fronts for WWE, especially in terms of their top talent, many of whom have expiring deals. The most notable names who are still not tied down to new contracts include the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Becky Lynch.

It emerged over the last week that WWE were already working hard on keeping some major names around, as it was reported that Dominik Mysterio, Rey Mysterio, and Charlotte Flair had all been handed deals to stick around for the foreseeable future.

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has revealed why WWE are now moving hard to offer talent big-money extensions.

“They're obviously very happy because they signed both of them (Rey & Dominik). Both of them could have waited until free agency, and at that point, they could have gotten probably a giant offer from AEW and a giant offer from WWE. But obviously, WWE really made it worth their while, which was what I was told is that they are going to they were looking at longtime deals with, greatly increased compensation for the guys because they don't want free agents right now.”

Of course, WWE doesn’t want to engage in bidding wars for talents, so offering up extensions whilst these top names are still under contract prevents the chances of them leaving. It remains to be seen if some other major stars will agree to extensions soon or wait until free agency to weigh up their options.
