Ricky Saints Wins North American Title On WWE NXT

Ricky Saints has captured a championship in only his third WWE match as the former Ricky Starks defeated Shawn Spears to become the new NXT North American Champion on the April 1 episode of NXT.

The ex-AEW talents faced off in the main event of NXT and Saints fought off interference from The Culling's Brooks Jensen and Niko Vance before he hit Spears with a Spear and Roshambo for the win. Saints wasn't able to celebrate for long, though, as he was attacked from behind by Ethan Page following his win, with NXT going off the air with Page holding the NXT North American Championship as fans chanted "Tony fumbled."

Ricky Saints signed with WWE in February, only days after his release from All Elite Wrestling. "Tony fumbled" chants aimed at AEW President Tony Khan have been a regular feature of Saints' matches on WWE NXT, although reports have claimed AEW "don't care" about the chants.

Saints' win on WWE NXT ended Shawn Spears' reign as NXT North American Champion after just 28 days. Spears defeated Tony D'Angelo for the belt on the March 4 edition of NXT.
