A new report has suggested that there was some surprise within WWE at the decision to release Jakara Jackson. The NXT star was one of the 17 talents let go in the round of post-WrestleMania cuts.

Fightful Select noted that while there were some within NXT that knew Jackson was set to be let go, it still surprised many as there had been conversations months back about Jackson and tag partner Lash Legend being called up to the main roster, which included pitches for them to win the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles. Once it became known that this would not be the case, NXT creative constructed the storyline to split Legend and Jakara up.

The 30-year-old plans to continue wrestling, albeit under the new ring name of Mara Sadè. Sadè will wrestle TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich at a Jersey Championship Wrestling show on July 6, in what will be the WWE PC-trained performer's first-ever independent match.

Fightful's report noted that there will likely be interest from MLW in some of the female talent who were released by WWE in May, though it is unknown if Sadè is one of them.
