The Rock "100%" Facing Roman Reigns At WWE WrestleMania 40

Fan frustration surrounding Rock vs. Reigns looks set to grow as we approach WWE WrestleMania 40.

WWE WrestleMania 40 will definitely see a match between The Rock and Roman Reigns, according to a recent report by PWInsider Elite, which explains:

"That is a done deal and as we noted on Saturday, likely something that was contractually locked in as one of the milestones Rock would be involved in as part of his TKO Board of Directors deal."

This news comes in the aftermath of a very eventful few days in terms of WWE's booking plans, as Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes appeared to defy expectations on SmackDown and avoid challenging Roman Reigns at WrestleMania - instead bringing out The Rock for a staredown with the Tribal Chief.

This sparked an immediate (and ongoing) backlash on social media, with most fans seeing it as a move that completely contradicts the entirety of Cody's build so far. The backlash was exacerbated by subsequent reports claiming that Rock may have pushed hard behind the scenes to get himself into the WrestleMania main event.

Theories then followed over the weekend suggesting that The Rock's involvement could be a bait-and-switch by WWE in order to engineer even greater support for Rhodes, but the above report would seem to contradict that, implying instead that Rock vs. Roman is going ahead at Cody's expense.

Aaron Varble of SE Scoops has backed up this report, tweeting the following:

"Rock vs Roman is locked in, but I was told over the weekend that creative has been working on the rest of the Mania card. Just enjoy the show, even if you think it should be Cody instead of The Rock."
