NXT vs. AEW: Dynamite - Which Was The Better Show This Week?

Toni storm nxt 24.2.21 901x506

WWE/NXT

NXT made me eat a fat slice of the humblest pie ever this week - take a bow Cameron Grimes you scruffy millionaire you. Grimes was inspired by Ted DiBiase to do the classic ‘kick the basketball away’ spot, but failed on numerous occasions, each time getting more incensed until he socked some poor random dweeb in the jaw and ran off with manic glee. I’m sorry I ever doubted you.

We heard from MSK in the most babyface Britain’s Got Talent way ever, the competitors for the WWE Women’s Tag Titles threw shade at each other in pre-taped vignettes, and Zack Gibson called Dain and Maverick ‘Shrek and Donkey’. You Scouse hero you.

Toni Storm confronted Io Shirai after the NXT Women’s Champion defeated Zoey Stark, calling Io a coward for taking a beating last week, before claiming that Io’s been ducking Storm. Io said she’s game for a fight, but Storm asked her if she was sure? Hard to argue with Toni here to be honest.

The meaty promo of the week went to Adam Cole, who showed remorse at his recent actions, as a frustrated Roderick Strong didn’t know what to do. More on that in a minute…

And LA Knight sent a video from his car basically saying that he’s absolutely mustard. Fair enough.

AEW wasn’t too promo/interview segment heavy this week, lots of quick bits like recent weeks.

Jon Moxley did his usual Jon Moxley promo were he was saying he was cool and tough. He even sat backwards on a chair because he’s really very cool. But seriously, it was a fine promo hyping up the Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch.

Alex Marvez caught up with Kenny Omega in a metalwork shop as Kenny was putting the finishing touches to a ‘Moxley Extermination Chamber’. If it’s anything on that weird bed of barbed wire from their Lights Out Match then I’m already wincing with anticipation.

Next week’s showdown between FTR & Tully Blanchard vs. Jurassic Express was hyped up, with both teams basically saying that Tully is dead hard and dead good. I’m intrigued to say the least.

Schiavone caught up with Miro, Kip, and Penelope. The newlyweds had faces like smacked arses as Miro vowed to crush ‘little xanax human’ Orange Cassidy, but said Charles can come home and be a man if he wants. Tony then read a message from Orange and Chuck challenging them to a match at Revolution. I’m ready for this feud to end, but Miro was good here.

We also heard from Matt Hardy after Adam Page defeated Isiah Kassidy. Big Money Matt vowed to hurt Page and all the Dark Order, then hurled poor Alan Angels off the stage through a table.

Winner: NXT. Cameron Grimes was great. Adam Cole was great. Zack Gibson is always great. AEW’s segments this week were less focused on words, and more on actions, which you can read about after the click…
