With the Royal Rumble fast approaching, WWE are entering the “Road To WrestleMania”, and plans will no doubt be shaping up as WWE grows closer and closer to their biggest show of the year. Some plans already seem to be in place, and as noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter by Dave Meltzer, plans for both Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins are almost set in stone.
Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship is confirmed to be the plan for the World Heavyweight Championship, and when it comes to Roman Reigns’ opponent, the expectation is that it will be The Rock or Cody Rhodes, with a chance of even a triple threat taking place for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
On WWE TV, it is clear that WWE is building towards these matches. Ever since Punk’s return to WWE, he and Rollins have engaged in a war of words. Elsewhere, Cody Rhodes has continued in his pursuit of the WrestleMania main event and doubled down on his desire of “finishing the story” whilst The Rock recently returned to WWE and teased a match with Reigns. Following the Royal Rumble, the status of the latter match will likely be clearer.
