Wade Barrett Discussed Returning To The Ring In NWA

It would have been his first match since 2016

During a recent interview with Metro, NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis revealed Wade Barrett discussed returning to the ring and facing him in the National Wrestling Alliance.

"Yeah, it had been tossed around," Aldis said. "It had been one of those things we'd kept in the back pocket as a 'maybe down the road,' yeah. Stu and I broke in - not broke in together, but we were both at the same wrestling school for a while. Even though he's a few years older than me - don’t rub it in with him - but there's always that thing where I was in TNA running hard and he was in WWE, there was always that thing of, 'What if those two wrestled each other?'"

Barrett joined NWA in December 2019 as a colour commentator and worked in the promotion until they were forced to cancel tapings because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He then returned to WWE as a commentator on NXT in August 2020 and later signed a one-year deal with the company.

Barrett hasn't stepped foot inside the squared circle since April 2016, but he did tease a match with Drew McIntyre a few months ago.
