After weeks of teases and several years of expectation, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage finally reunited on the August 13 edition of AEW Dynamite, with Christian saving Cope from an FTR beatdown before he prevented an attack from Nick Wayne.
Following the reunion, it was announced that Christian and the former Edge will team together for the first time since 2011 at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door when they face Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian.
Some anticipated their reunion tag team match would be saved for All Out, especially as the pay-per-view is in their hometown of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Cope and Christian's first tag team match together in over a decade was booked for Forbidden Door, however, so they can secure a win before potentially challenging for the AEW World Tag Team Titles.
"I guess the idea was they could do the first match and give them a win because it may be a championship match. So then you cannot complain that they haven't even gotten a win and they're getting a championship match. So they are getting a win so that may be a championship match. It may not be, but I can tell you for sure the original plan was for them to get a win to build to a championship match," Meltzer said.
The original plans called for Cope and Christian Cage to challenge FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Titles at All Out on September 20. The Hurt Syndicate have been resistant behind the scenes to dropping the belts to Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, however, and it is unknown if a title change is still planned.
