Presentation is an important thing in WWE, but for fans the company policy change on Titantron videos was a step in the wrong direction.
In years past, a superstar’s Titantron entrance video would contain a mixture of studio footage, match highlights, and specific character iconography, but this was changed to more simple videos showing the wrestler in question’s name and logo.
Wrestling fans, of course, don’t always react positively to change, and this particular decision was seen as taking away from the WWE product. During a Q&A session on Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp revealed that the change was due to several factors, with a change in internal presentation philosophies stated as one factor, whilst a round of internal cutbacks several years ago saw the video editor in charge of those highlight videos released as a cost-cutting exercise, and they were never rehired or replaced.
Whether these videos eventually come back or not is anyone’s guess. But it may just be a case of letting the past be the past. Jim Johnston isn’t coming back to WWE any time soon to write more iconic music, and it may be the case that Titantron videos don’t change all too much either.
