WWE Were Heavily Critical Of Britt Baker & Thunder Rosa's Lights Out Match

WWE were not fans of Britt Baker & Thunder Rosa’s bloody Lights Out match

Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa’s classic Lights Out match at AEW St. Patrick’s Day Slam in 2021 put Baker on the map, with the blood-spattered brawl something seldom seen in mainstream American pro-wrestling.

The match had its critics as well as its fans, and during a panel discussion at SXSW, Bryan Danielson revealed how some in WWE were heavily critical of the bout:

"There was a ton of hoopla backstage in WWE when Britt wrestled Thunder Rosa and it was bloody. There were a bunch of people backstage saying, ‘Women’s wrestling should not be like that. This is horrible. We would never do that.’ Except, if you’re talking about equal rights, letting women go out there and do things that men do. That kind of match took Britt and women’s wrestling and AEW to the next level. You’d watch it and be like, ‘These women are stars,'" said Danielson.

Baker and Rosa would again clash in a bloody cage match one year later at St. Patrick’s Day Slam 2022, Rosa defeating Baker for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Baker has not been seen on AEW TV for several months and is awaiting clearance to make a comeback, whilst Rosa returned to action in December 2023 after 16 months on the sidelines with a back injury.
