Will Ospreay 'Done' Mentioning Anyone From WWE Following Triple H Jibe

The war of words between Will Ospreay and Triple H is over as far as Will Ospreay is concerned. 

WWE have missed out on three of the biggest free agents of 2024 so far, with Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, and Mercedes Moné all opting to sign with All Elite Wrestling. Reports after Will Ospreay began full-time with AEW in February 2024 noted WWE offered the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion a lot less money than AEW and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque simply didn't realise how good Ospreay was. 

While he didn't name Ospreay directly, Triple H stated on the Pat McAfee Show ahead of WrestleMania 40 that talent who weren't in it for the grind had no business being in WWE.

"There are things I used to be on top of all the time. I would keep track of everybody, everywhere, who was working in this business. I don't have time to do that anymore. I have people who do that. People like William Regal and different folks that are out there. I get reports on everybody. I know who is out there, I know how good they are, I know what their potential is. I see what's out there. I don't subscribe to, 'This guy says they are good, that guy says they are good.' I have to see it. It's just keeping track of who is out there and what they can do. Because they succeed someplace else doesn't mean they'll succeed at the big time," Triple H said.

"How many players go from college football at a high level and fail in the NFL? It's massive. It's a different game, a different world. If they are not here to be all in on this...when I see people coming out of trying to make it, and then they pick a job where, well, they work less, the schedule is lighter, then I'm like, 'I'm glad I didn't pick you.' If you're not in it for the grind, at that point early in your career, you have no business being here."

Many assumed the comments were a dig at Will Ospreay, as did the man himself, and the Brit proceeded to fire back at Triple H on the April 10 episode of Dynamite, saying that the person who stated he was afraid of the grind only reached his position by grinding on the boss' daughter. 

Ospreay addressed the situation again at the Dynasty post-show media scrum, having just had what many have called one of the best matches of the current millennium with Bryan Danielson. 

After being asked if matches like the bout against Danielson silenced the "grind" discussion, Ospreay stated:  

"Yes, of course. I don't want to address it anymore. I can remember a generation of when I grew up where like, you throw a jab, I throw one back. Although I wasn't mentioned by name, it was clearly about me. All due respect, I'm kind of done mentioning anyone over there now. I don't want to do that anymore because I feel I lowered myself to that standard. I don't need to do that anymore. Look what I just did in the ring with Bryan. That's only match two from pay-per-view. I've got a f*ckload more to go down.

"With all due respect, if you take everything into consideration, of course I'm annoyed about a jab that I took. I threw one back, I don't think it was anything bad. It's a joke from 20 years ago for f*ck sake. Don't be too butthurt. That's the first time I've ever experienced true tribalism between the two. It's not nice. It's unnecessary. I'm over it. I can't be bothered with it. I just want to be focused on promoting AEW. I don't regret what I said.

"You take the entire thing into consideration, it did p*ss me off, but from this day on, I won't go down that road. I don't need to. I'm the best wrestler in the world. I don't need to f*ck with guys below me."
