Ethan Page Wins WWE NXT Title At Heatwave With Backlash 2007 Callback

All Ego walked away with the gold.

Ethan Page clinched his first WWE NXT title at last night's Heatwave event, when he won the NXT Championship in the show's main event.

'All Ego' triumphed over Trick Williams, Je'Von Evans and Shawn Spears in a fatal four-way match. However, there was an air of luck about how it all went down.

For the finish, Williams hit Evans and then Page in rapid succession with his Trick Shot finishing move, with Page falling backwards on top of Evans after receiving his. As the referee counted the three, Spears began pulling Williams out of the ring.

The finish was similar to the main event of Backlash 2007, which saw John Cena defending his WWE Title against Randy Orton, Edge and Shawn Michaels. The Heartbreak Kid (who now oversees NXT creative) hit Cena with Sweet Chin Music, with Big Match John fortuitously falling backwards onto Orton to retain.

Williams had been champion for 75 days, after beating Ilja Dragunov at night one of NXT Spring Breakin' (on April 23). Page had unsuccessfully challenged Williams for the NXT Championship at Battleground on June 9.

The NXT Championship was the only one to change hands at Heatwave, with the champions retaining their belts in the five other title bouts on the card.

Ethan Page joined WWE NXT in May following a three-year run in AEW. He recently spoke about how he initially thought his WWE offer was fake.
