Jim Ross: "(AEW President) Tony Khan Saved My Life"

Good Ol' JR credits his boss...

Through AEW Dynamite, generations of wrestling fans in the present day get to enjoy an arrangement familiar to them - Jim Ross as presiding voice for weekly professional wrestling action.

At age 67, "Good Ol' JR" seems to have no intentions of slowing down any time soon, either. As recently revealed on his Grilling JR podcast, Ross is enjoying his continued life in the business, and the purpose that it fills him with.

Earlier in 2019, Ross commented on the necessity of purpose and direction, particularly following the sudden death of wife Jan in the spring of 2017, saying, "At this stage in my life where you’re an empty nester, and you lost your best friend, she’s no longer there — I need to stay busy."

On Grilling JR, Ross credited AEW founder and President Tony Khan for helping him find renewed purpose, saying, “I love to travel. Tony Khan saved my life, I believe that. Because I like getting up now and going somewhere.

"Every Tuesday morning I’m up at 4 or 5 o’clock at the latest to catch a plane, first flight out, boom I’m going to the city to have our production meeting on Tuesday night and then our show on Wednesday. So I got a direction now and a destination.”
