AAA Mega Title Vacated By El Hijo Del Vikingo

The luchador recently underwent knee surgery.

El Hijo del Vikingo has vacated the AAA Mega Championship, ending his reign at 833 days.

The luchador originally won the title (which was vacant at the time) at Triplemania Regia II on December 4, 2021.

The 26-year-old underwent surgery last month to repair a torn meniscus and a ruptured ligament, which he suffered in a match on February 17. At this stage, there is no timetable for his return.

The previous AAA Mega Champion, Kenny Omega, was also forced to vacate the title due to injuries after a multi-year reign.

AAA have since announced that a new Mega Champion will be crowned at Triplemania XXXII on April 27. Alberto El Patron booked his place in the title match by winning a triple-threat match against Cibernetico and Psycho Clown this past Saturday.

This injury setback is the latest in a list of them for the talented high-flier. In September it was reported that he had suffered a hip injury, while in August he passed out backstage at a AAA event (which was later blamed on dehydration).

Konnan and Rey Mysterio have previously detailed how they told El Hijo del Vikingo to tone down his in-ring style in order to prolong his career and limit the risk of serious injuries.
