AEW Had A 'Plan B' In Case Darby Allin's Insane Glass Spot Went Wrong
AEW had a back-up plan in case Darby Allin’s Revolution glass spot went wrong
Mar 7, 2024
One of the big talking spots of Sting’s last match at All Elite Wrestling Revolution 2024 wa his tag partner Darby Allin taking a frankly insane bump from the top of a massive ladder through a pane of glass on top of six steel chairs on the floor outside the ring.
The spot saw Allin bleed instantly from multiple wounds in his back, and divided audience opinion online. Allin was seemingly ok, as he not only regrouped from the spot but managed to finish the match, with he and Sting defeating The Young Bucks to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
Such a spot comes with a very fine margin of error, and as revealed by Sports Illustrated, AEW had a ‘plan b’ in case Allin’s stunt did not go according to plan. Allin was apparently adamant about performing the spot, and after it was given the go ahead AEW had safety experts and a stunt coordinator on hand to rehearse the lead up to the spot, making sure all props were put together properly to ensure the minimum amount of damage to Darby, as well as ensure audience safety.
Doctors were also reportedly on standby should Allin have taken major damage, with The Young Bucks ready to call an audible on the finish. However, everything went according to plan, with Sting and Darby finishing the night with the tag titles still in their possession. Sting originally wanted to lose the main event, but was persuaded by The Bucks and AEW President Tony Khan to ‘go out on his feet’ instead.
