Now this could be interesting.

Karrion Kross and John Cena have both had fun teasing a potential meeting on social media over the last six weeks or so, after a fan suggested on Twitter that the reigning NXT champion should be the man to retire the 44-year-old WWE veteran.

Heck, WWE.com stoked the rumours of a match between Kross and Cena as well, putting up an article about a match after the two men posted images of each other on their respective Instagram feeds.

So, could WWE actually pull the trigger and put Kross and Cena across the ring from each other this August?

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that the promotion has used their biggest star to help get a reigning NXT Champion over. Remember Kevin Owens’ debut on the main roster? He popped up, powerbombed Cena, and beat him clean at Elimination Chamber in May 2015.

Six years on, WWE could potentially do the same again. NXT is on a different level to what it was back then, with many considering the black-and-gold brand on par with ‘the main roster’.

And what a way to introduce Kross to mainstream WWE fans that could be. The man has run through every person put in his path on NXT and it seems a case of when, not if, he continues that run on either Raw or SmackDown.

That’s not to say that Kross has to be done in NXT. But if you were to pick one person from WWE’s Wednesday Night show to step up to Cena, you’d do well to find someone better placed than Kross.

Unlikely? Perhaps. Do we want to see it? Absolutely!
