Since defeating Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Championship, Chris Jericho has been on a quest to prove he is the greatest ROH Champ of all time, and has vowed to mow through former champions.

So far Jericho has overcome Bandido, and will take on Bryan Danielson on October 12, but another name has thrown his hat into the arena - Davey Richards.

Richards made his intentions public on Twitter, posting the following in response to a fan: “What do ya say @ringofhonor and @IAmJericho? Let's crack open that Forbidden door? #richardsvsjericho”

Richards was the fifteenth man in Ring of Honor history to have reigned as world champion, defeating American Wolves partner Eddie Edwards for the strap at Best in the World 2011 fittingly at a time when many considered Richards the best in-ring technician on the planet. Richards would drop the title to Kevin Steen 321 days later at Border Wars 2012.

In late 2017, Richards revealed he would be undergoing knee surgery, and subsequently retired from wrestling, before making a comeback in 2021, signing with MLW.
