Report: Backstage News On The Authors Of Pain's Potential WWE Return

Could the Authors of Pain return to WWE?

They were seen as a can’t miss act when brought up from NXT to WWE’s main roster in April 2018, but The Authors of Pain’s run on main was a series of misfires with only a scant few highlights, before the team of Akam and Rezar were given their WWE releases in 2020.

With former NXT head Triple H now in charge of WWE creative, and WWE’s tag division needing a shot in the arm, reports suggested that the former NXT Tag Team Champions could be on their way back to WWE with the company reportedly interested in the team.

Whilst nothing has been confirmed as of writing, a report from Fightful Select suggests that Akam and Rezar are incredibly loyal to former on-screen manager Paul Ellering, and it’s believed that the WWE Hall of Famer will be leading any negotiations on their side should WWE make a play to rehire them.

Whilst the Authors of Pain’s main roster run did fail to live up to expectations, they did reign as WWE Raw Tag Team Champions on one occasion. Injuries certainly hampered the AOP’s progression, and although they were positioned as Seth Rollins enforcers on TV, they were deemed surplus to requirements in September 2022.
