Report: CM Punk Injury Update

Could CM Punk be back soon?

CM Punk has been out of action since the beginning of June, after breaking his foot mere days after winning the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing.

Punk underwent successful surgery on the injury not long after being put on the shelf, and a new report from Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer could suggest when the ‘Second City Saint’ could make his return to an AEW ring:

“Punk should not be long before he returns, I mean not this month, probably not August, but perhaps All Out, perhaps Full Gear, I think it’ll be one of those shows when he’s back,” said Meltzer.

With September’s All Out taking place in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, a hometown return would be perfect, and would generate a massive pop and a lot of buzz. However, Punk’s return anywhere is likely to elicit a huge reaction, and previous reports stated there was no timeframe for Punk’s return, and he’d return ‘when ready’.

Despite being put on the shelf for an indeterminate amount of time, Punk was ‘not allowed’ to vacate the AEW World Championship, with Jon Moxley reigning as interim champion until Punk returns.
