Report: CM Punk Vs. KENTA Discussed For AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door

Could CM Punk vs. KENTA finally happen at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II?

Forbidden Door time allows all would be bookers and lovers of dream matches to revel in the fact that such fanciful matches can become reality in an AEW/NJPW ring. We’ve already seen Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada announced for the supershow on June 25, and reports suggest another long-standing dream match could be on the cards.

Per Fightful Select, there have allegedly been discussions internally about booking KENTA vs. CM Punk for Forbidden Door II, with the two having long been touted as a dream match due to their use of the Go To Sleep - a move that KENTA invented, and CM Punk made internationally famous.

KENTA has long been vocal about wanting to face Punk, but recent tweets from the Bullet Club member suggest that his motivations for a match are not based on the G2S, but on a fat stack of cash.

Whilst discussions have earmarked running KENTA against Punk, nothing is finalised. Plans suggest that KENTA is being planned for the show in some capacity, however, a move that would mark KENTA’s second match in an AEW ring, and his first since teaming with Kenny Omega to defeat Jon Moxley and Lance Archer on the February 4, 2021 edition of AEW Dynamite.
