Further details have been revealed about WWE's reaction to CM Punk alluding to Vince McMahon on Monday Night Raw.

CM Punk was involved in a widely-praised segment on Raw with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, with reports indicating the segment was outlined but the promos weren't written word for word. CM Punk at one point during the segment dared Drew McIntyre to say Vince McMahon's name after he asked Irn Dru who chose him to be the chosen one back in 2009, referring to McIntyre being McMahon's hand-picked project on WWE TV.

Punk alluding to Vince McMahon reportedly caused a "hush backstage", according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider. There was no heat on Punk for the line, though, and reports have indicated that WWE were fine with Punk "walking right up to the line." In fact, there have only been "positive reviews" for Punk since he returned to WWE in November 2023.

Vince McMahon has been persona non grata in WWE since he resigned as TKO Executive Chairman in January. This came after former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against McMahon accusing him of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. WWE have since reportedly "thrown in the towel" on McMahon and no one within the company is even privately trying to defend the 78-year-old.
