Report: Many AEW Contracts Lack A Non-Compete Clause

Non-compete clauses are common in WWE, with NXT talents often been subject to 30-day non-competes when they are released, while main roster talents are often bound by a 90-day non-compete clause. Talents are often still paid by WWE during their non-compete periods following any cuts WWE may have made. 

While they are common in the biggest pro wrestling company in the world, they seemingly aren't widely used in All Elite Wrestling. According to AEW contracts that Fightful Select have seen and numerous talents in the promotion, non-compete clauses are not attached to many of All Elite Wrestling's deals with talent. 

The need for non-compete clauses is not as prevalent within AEW as WWE since Tony Khan's promotion rarely releases talent before their contracts expire unless due to disciplinary action or a special request. 

Upon talents exiting their contracts early, a decision to add a non-compete is determined on a case-by-case basis. Everyone Fightful spoke to in AEW believes a non-compete clause would be included in any release agreement with CM Punk that would prevent him from wrestling for WWE for a period of time.  

Punk hasn't been seen in All Elite Wrestling since All Out 2022, when he was suspended for a brawl with The Elite. If Punk is still suspended is unknown but he is out of action with a torn triceps. As of February, no fences had been mended between CM Punk and The Elite.
