Report: WWE Considered Moving Kofi Kingston To WWE Raw
Away from Big E...
Sep 18, 2020
On the July 24 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Kofi Kingston explained he would be sidelined for the next six weeks and gave Big E his blessing to go on a singles run. The former Intercontinental Champion has enjoyed a successful stint without his tag team partners so far and has picked up victories over The Miz, John Morrison and Sheamus. September 4 has since come and gone without Kofi's return.
While the former WWE Champion will reunite with Big E at some point, WWE reportedly considered moving Kingston to Raw, according to WrestleVotes. The plan was to keep Big E on Friday nights and The New Day would have stayed together, just on different brands. Xavier Woods would have also returned to WWE TV as a manager for both men during their singles runs. WWE seemingly weren't big fans of the idea, though, as WrestleVotes noted it was rejected.
They tweeted: "Interesting idea that was discussed but turned down: Kofi Kingston would return to RAW, while Big E stays on SmackDown. Both remain part of New Day, including gear & music. Just on separate brands. Another twist: Xavier Woods would serve as a manager type appearing on both shows."
