A change will be made to the WWE NXT Title match at New Year's Evil 2025 on next week's Christmas Eve edition of NXT.

Oba Femi earned an NXT Title match against Trick Williams at New Year's Evil courtesy of his Iron Survivor Challenge win at Deadline. Eddy Thorpe managed to scheme his way into a title match with Trick Williams on the December 17 edition of NXT, though, and that match ended in controversial circumstances.

Williams vs. Thorpe featured a ref bump on Tuesday night, but another referee soon arrived to call the action. The match then ended in a double pin after Williams hit his Trick Shot finisher and fell on top of Thorpe to make the cover. Trick's shoulders were down on the mat during the cover, though, and Thorpe draped his arm across Williams' torso. As the second referee counted the pin for Williams, the first referee recovered and counted the pinfall for Thorpe, ending the match in a double pin.

NXT went off the air with NXT General Manager Ava trying to determine who was the champion, with Shawn Michaels ruling in a post-show angle that Williams was still NXT Champion. A furious Eddy Thorpe then got physical with Michaels.

The situation was ultimately resolved during the taping of the December 24 episode and it was determined during a confrontation between Trick Williams, Oba Femi, and Eddy Thorpe that it will be a Triple Threat at New Year's Evil on January 7 at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

There will also be a title change on next week's WWE NXT following a surprise heel turn.
