Surprise Over Recent WWE NXT Release

Surprise over recent WWE release

WWE carried out cuts to NXT in early May, releasing the likes of Gable Steveson, Valentina Feroz, Trey Bearhill, Ezekiel Balogun, Julian Baldi, Emma Diaz, Keyshawn Leflore, Darrell Mason, Vlad Pavlenko, and Kiyah Saint. It was also confirmed that SCRYPTS and Boa would leave WWE when their contracts expire at the end of May and the company do not plan to renew Drew Gulak's deal amid sexual misconduct and bullying allegations.

Fightful Select noted that several within WWE NXT from the production side of the brand to talent were surprised by Trey Bearhill's release. The former American football offensive lineman had been a part of WWE since August 2022, although he only had two matches on NXT TV in January 2024.

It was also noted by NXT talent that Valentina Feroz and Boa didn't receive consistent opportunities to showcase what they are capable of due to suffering from injuries in recent months. The releases being carried out during an episode of Friday Night SmackDown was also said to be "no accident."

Gable Steveson was ultimately the most high-profile release, with reports indicating he was let go due to his high salary and a lack of development from the Olympic gold medallist. There was reportedly little surprise backstage in NXT when Steveson was released by the company.
