Tony khan all in 2024 media scrum

Back in May of this year at the Double Or Nothing post-show media scrum, Tony Khan revealed that he’d thought and talked about the potential of a women’s tag team division in AEW. He said his focus at the time was to build depth in the division before either Women’s Tag Team Championships or Mixed Tag Team Championships would be introduced:

"Yeah, absolutely. We've talked about that. We've talked about a lot of potential additions in terms of championships. I think right now we've got some really strong rivalries emerging amongst the world championship, the TBS Championship, and also with ROH you can't deny that ROH has great champions now... We're also still trying to really build the depth back to I think the strongest it's ever been.”

When asked about any update on a Women’s Tag Team Championship or division, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select revealed on Select Answers that there were no serious plans of introducing any women’s tag team titles to AEW. He said that the closest he’d heard was back when AEW ran a women’s tag team tournament in 2020 called “The Deadly Draw”, which was won by Diamante and Ivelisse. All they had to boast about from that tournament was medals. Sapp noted that there had been some pitches for a tag team division, but there have been no rumblings of any steps being taken in this direction.
