Matt Hardy Elects Not To Re-Sign With WWE; Announces That He's A Free Agent

WWE star Matt Hardy has announced that he has opted not to re-sign with his home promotion of the last three years, and now considers himself a free agent.
At the stroke of midnight EST on Monday, March 2, Matt Hardy released a video to his YouTube channel, in which he outlined both his current status and future outlook.
"As of this current time, I have decided to let my contract with WWE expire. I am going to become a free agent," Hardy said, while adding. "That's not to say I'm not going to return to WWE."
Hardy detailed his reasons for choosing not to re-sign, stating, "When it comes to my creative stance and my creative outlook on myself and my career...I just think that myself and WWE are on different pages.
"I want to enter a creative renaissance, and I want to have non-stop input on my creative process, and I think that's where WWE and I are on different pages."
The 45-year-old feels he has three or four years left as an active wrestler, and that cementing his legacy is important, adding, "I don't have a lot of time. Time is ticking. I'm too old to waste time. I have to do it now. I can't wait a year, two years - I've got to do it now."
Hardy also mentioned that he would be watching lots of wrestling this week, name-dropping every conceivable show from promotions such as WWE, AEW, Impact, ROH, NWA, MLW, and New Japan. He also reiterated that he saw himself back in WWE one day in the future, citing a possible Hall of Fame induction involving he and his brother, Jeff.
Hardy was written out of WWE storylines following an assault from Randy Orton on the February 17 episode of Raw.
