Billy Corgan Claims NWA Were Added To CW App Instead Of TV Due To WWE NXT Deal
Billy Corgan claims NWA is on CW app not CW TV due to WWE NXT
The NWA has finally found a home with The CW Network, with NWA programming added to the CW app from the February 6 episode of Powerrr onwards.
It was originally believed that NWA content was set for the CW’s TV broadcast schedule, but the network instead inked a lucrative deal with WWE NXT, with Billy Corgan saying this is what caused NWA to end up on the app only during an appearance on Busted Open Radio:
“When people heard that we were gonna be on the streaming side (of The CW), there were a few raised eyebrows as if this was some sort of kick in the shin and we had talked to CW at different times about being on the broadcast side versus the streaming but they just decided the streaming side was the better side for us and I think it’s because they knew what was coming. Of course, they’re more inside on the baseball than we are and of course with them signing NXT on the broadcast side but, being on a streaming service is a huge deal. The level of competition is really fierce as you see so this is a big move for us and it’s hopefully a big step into a bigger future,” said Corgan
NXT is set to make the switch to The CW in October 2024. A deal between NWA and The CW was rumoured in late 2023 and it initially appeared NWA would be featured on CW, only for the company to be added to the app reportedly because of a cocaine spot involving Father James Mitchell at Samhain.
