Chris Jericho Wins ROH World Title At AEW Grand Slam

Chris Jericho is now an eight-time World champion

Chris Jericho is the new ROH World champion, after defeating Claudio Castagnoli in the opening match of AEW Dynamite Grand Slam on Wednesday night in New York City.

Late in the match, Castagnoli prevented Jericho from using "Floyd", his baseball bat. As referee Aubrey Edwards went to remove the bat, Claudio stunned Jericho with a strike before running to the corner to attempt a follow-up move, but almost ran into Edwards in the process. Castagnoli turned back around, only to be given a low blow by the challenger, who then followed up with a Judas Effect for the win.

After the match, Castagnoli celebrated with his Jericho Appreciation Society teammates on the ramp, although ROH Pure champion Daniel Garcia stood far from the group celebration, looking a bit disconcerted.

Castagnoli's reign ends at 60 days. He won the title from Jonathan Gresham at Death Before Dishonor on July 23 in Lowell, MA.

For Jericho, the win gives him the eighth World title of his career. He is the only man to have held the WWE, WCW, AEW, and ROH World titles.
