'The Devil' has been terrorising All Elite Wrestling over the past several weeks, taking out the likes of Bullet Club Gold and The Acclaimed and any other talents in MJF's orbit on AEW TV.

The identity of 'The Devil' has been the subject of much speculation and one name mentioned half in jest is CM Punk, the two-time AEW World Champion who was fired with cause by the promotion back in September following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry and multiple confrontations with Tony Khan.

CM Punk himself has now played into the speculation, though, posting an image of Black Scorpion with the question "Who was behind the mask?" on his Instagram Stories. Beyond Punk, other names speculated to be 'The Devil' are Britt Baker, Dolph Ziggler, Adam Cole, Ricky Starks, and even MJF himself.

Eric Bischoff, who has been critical of AEW in recent years, stated it would be "the best story ever" if Punk turns out to be 'The Devil'.

"We're dealing in fantasy land here, so I preface everything I'm saying with a, 'I don't believe any of this is real.' If this [Punk's firing] was something that was conceived initially - back when CM Punk first went off on Tony Khan and had his meltdown and [had] his issues with The Bucks and whoever else he had issues with - if that was all a work, and this is the result of it, I'll put it over as the best story ever been told. But if this is just making chicken salad out of chicken s**t, it doesn't qualify as a story, or an arc, or [a] plan. It's just a Band-Aid, and a much-needed one," Bischoff said on 83 Weeks.

Black Scorpion was a gimmick utilised in World Championship Wrestling in 1990 to terrorise Sting and was ultimately revealed to be Ric Flair.
