CM Punk's Wrestling Return
It may have been ‘wrestling’s worst-kept secret’ by design, but CM Punk’s sensational return to professional wrestling was still one of the most shocking moments of the year.
Though there had been rumours that the Straight-Edge Superstar was going to make his unlikely debut in front of a sold-out Chicago crowd for All Elite Wrestling on the August 20th episode of Rampage, it wasn’t a sure thing.
Punk had been away from the business for over seven years after famously walking out of WWE the day after the 2014 Royal Rumble.
In the interim he’d done everything to avoid coming back to the business, from an ill-fated MMA pursuit, to acting, writing comic books and seemingly everything in-between.
But then the familiar strains of Living Color’s 'Cult of Personality' kicked in and fantasy became reality, the second coming of the Second City Saint blowing the roof off the United Center and bringing some fans to tears.
