Report: NJPW Star In Talks With AEW

A different option for opening the forbidden door...

All Elite Wrestling has continued to make moves to enhance their men's roster. They tried to sign Marty Scurll and introduce him as the leader of Dark Order but he decided to re-sign with Ring Of Honor. Reports have also indicated AEW have made efforts to sign Brian Cage now that he is a free agent.

Now, Justin Barrasso at Sports Illustrated has reported that the young promotion is in "high-level talks" with New Japan Pro Wrestling star Lance Archer. He is currently working in New Japan on a tour by tour basis meaning he is free to negotiate with other promotions.

Many in the wrestling world believe signing The American Psycho would be a major coup for AEW after his breakout year in 2019. Since signing with New Japan in 2011, Archer has spent much of his time in tag team action, particularly as part of Killer Elite Squad (K.E.S) with Davey Boy Smith. But after Smith left the promotion back in June, the former IWGP Tag Team champion has enjoyed a push as a singles star.

He took part in his first G1 Climax in five years last Summer, achieving notable victories against Will Ospreay, Bad Luck Fale and EVIL. Archer then won his first singles title in NJPW at King Of Pro-Wrestling when he defeated Juice Robinson for the IWGP United States Championship. The former WWE star would hold the gold for 82 days before losing it to Jon Moxley in a Texas Death match at Wrestle Kingdom 14.
