Title Change Takes Place On WWE NXT

New champion crowned on WWE NXT

A new champion was crowned on the May 14 edition of WWE NXT.

The NXT Heritage Cup was on the line in the main event of NXT as Charlie Dempsey defended the trophy against Tony D'Angelo. The Don quickly acclimatised to Heritage Cup rules and D'Angelo ended up winning the match two falls to one, picking up the decisive fall with a Perfect Plex. This came after interference from Damon Kemp and Myles Borne backfired.

The win saw D'Angelo win his first singles title in WWE. He is a two-time NXT Tag Team Champion with Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo, having held the belts from July 30, 2023 until February 13, 2024 outside of one month when Chase U had the titles.

D'Angelo's win also ended Charlie Dempsey's reign as NXT Heritage Cup Champion after 77 days. He won the cup back in February, defeating Noam Dar.

The D'Angelo Family and No Quarter Catch Crew have been feuding for the past several weeks after NQCC hired the Family to eliminate Drew Gulak. D'Angelo then kidnapped Myles Borne and Damon Kemp last week to prevent Charlie Dempsey from utilising the Catch Clause on May 14.

D'Angelo, instead of going to jail for kidnapping, was fined $20,000 by NXT General Manager Ava for his actions. Like a true upstanding gentleman, D'Angelo paid his fine with an envelope full of cash.
