Corey Graves’ recent outburst on social media confused many wrestling fans, with it unclear if Graves was shooting or working over his transfer from the WWE SmackDown commentary booth to NXT.

Graves was subsequently absent from the January 14 edition of NXT, prompting speculation that Graves could have been disciplined for his actions, with some in WWE suggesting Graves was shooting perhaps in an attempt to get fired. However, Dave Meltzer has seemingly cleared up any confusion over the matter, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Graves was trying to blur the lines and create some buzz. Graves has reportedly been adamant that he was not trying to get fired.

Graves was originally scheduled to be calling the action on SmackDown with Joe Tessitore from the new year, but plans are believed to have been changed in the past several weeks, with Wade Barrett chosen to announce alongside Tessitore.

Graves was reportedly genuinely unhappy about the change in plans but the situation may end up becoming a work, with one person high up in WWE telling Meltzer: “He may be telling everyone it’s a work. And it may turn into one. But it was a total shoot when it was happening.”
