Why Luke Harper Asked For His WWE Release Revealed
Harper is stuck...
May 2, 2019
The last we knew about Luke Harper's quest to get released from his WWE contract was that he wasn't going to get it, and not only that,
the company reportedly added another six months to his current dealto make up for the time the former Bludgeon Brother spent out injured.
Thanks to the latest
Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we've now learned that Luke was told in writing by Vince McMahon himself that he wasn't going to be released.
The latest
WONalso confirms the reports from last week that
Harper was set to start a feud with Sami Zayn on Raw, but this was scrapped after the release request went in.
Rather bizarrely, the latest
WONalso reports that Vince McMahon 'doesn't get' Luke Harper as a performer, and even bemoaned his lack of a southern accent...
Luke is said to have regularly pitched creative ideas when he was out injured but was repeatedly turned down.
The Observer also reports that Luke was a last-minute addition to the WrestleMania 35 Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal because Vince McMahon didn't know why he wasn't in there initially...
After learning that the Sami Zayn angle was scrapped, Luke was brought in to do a dark match with EC3 before the SmackDown Live after WrestleMania - a match solely put on to test out the wrestler/manager combo of the man from the Top One Per Cent and Drake Maverick.
The latest
WONclaimes Vince hated the manager spots in the match - which explains why EC3 and Maverick haven't been seen on TV together at all - but also hated the match so much that when the question was posed which brand Harper should be assigned to in the Superstar Shake-Up, McMahon said neither.
Upon learning that he wasn't going to be getting a brand, this is reportedly when Luke put his release request in.
