Finn Bálor Comments On Potential NXT Title Match at WWE WrestleMania 37

The Prince explains why he is not keen on the idea...

Finn Bálor has admitted he would rather not defend the NXT Championship at WrestleMania 37 if it means he is unable to do so at NXT TakeOver event scheduled for the same weekend.

Edge's victory at the 2021 Royal Rumble, and subsequent appearance on NXT, has sparked speculation that the WWE Hall Of Famer could potentially choose to battle Bálor for his title at this year's WrestleMania, which will take place across two nights on April 10 and April 11.

Rhea Ripley set a precedent for such a thing by defending the NXT Women's championship against Charlotte Flair at last April's 'Mania, but the title was therefore not scheduled for defence on the NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay card, a show that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is yet to be officially confirmed whether WWE will be hosting an NXT TakeOver prior to WrestleMania 37 but, should there be one, Bálor does not want to defend his title at the 'Mania event at the expense of missing the NXT show.

When asked about a potential NXT title match at WrestleMania 37, he told the New York Post: "It would be very cool but I feel NXT is something that is very close to my heart and NXT TakeOver at WrestleMania weekend is a huge event and a huge kind of flag bearer for NXT. And not having the NXT title match on TakeOver, if that’s gonna in any way damage the NXT brand, it’s something I’d rather stay away from.

"Once we’re protecting the NXT brand without having it diluted by the big show at WrestleMania it’s something I’d be willing to do. If there’s the possibility of defending the title back to back nights, TakeOver and WrestleMania, then I’m all for it."

Bálor is set to defend the NXT Championship against Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day this weekend and reports suggest that conversations have been held by WWE officials about having the black-and-gold brand's main title defended at The Show of Shows
