John Cena Championship Match Considered For WWE WrestleMania 41
Could John Cena pursue one more WWE title run at WrestleMania 41?
Nov 1, 2024
WWE are considering a championship match featuring John Cena at WrestleMania 41, according to a new report.
In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was noted that there had been discussions about having Cena challenge one of the two world champions next year, including at The Showcase of the Immortals.
The story of the match would be Cena attempting to break Ric Flair's (debated) record of 16 world titles, which Cena is currently tied with.
Cody Rhodes is the current WWE Champion, while Gunther holds the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
2025 will be John Cena's last year as a professional wrestler, as he embarks on a retirement tour. Cena confirmed that the tour (which will start in January and end in December) will see him work about 36 dates around the world.
Many WWE stars past and present - including The Miz, CM Punk, Rob Van Dam and Matt Cardona - have publicly expressed a desire to have one more match with Cena before he hangs up his jorts.
Cena himself, however, has said he is not interested in picking his own opponents during the tour.
Internally, a match between Cena and Logan Paul has been discussed.
